Course Content and Policies:
This course is consisted of two main parts: Film Studies and Video Production. The two parts will be intertwined through out the year. For Film Studies, students will be viewing works from different time periods and genre and then analyze the work in different point of views. For Video Production, students will be producing video shorts to demonstrate skills learned.
There will be labs, individual written assignments as well as individual/partners video production projects. Although there maybe tests/quizzes, the course is mainly based on projects, assignments, and labs.
For the video projects, students will peer review and self review their work as part of the assessment. The goal is to screen all work produced by multiple people or the entire class. Labs are short in-class work used to master a certain technique.
Student MUST complete all their work in the lab at school. Time will be given during class to complete assignments. If additional time is needed, student can make advance arrangement to come use the lab before and/or after school. For shooting, students are expected to continue working on project outside of class time as necessary.
Projects due dates are firm. Any projects handed in after the due date will be given a reduced score. If the student is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to arrange time to work at school to complete the projects and hand in on-time. There are no make-up projects.
Missed tests will have to be done upon return to class. Missed lab activities will result in zero. There is no late score reduction for make up lab. Student can make up a lab anytime throughout the term before the reporting cut off.
In an attempt to be paperless, most of the course material will be distributed via the course website. Students are expected to check the website for any files, links, or announcements.
Class Policies:
We are involved in a mutually beneficial communal learning experience, one that requires full attention and respectful behavior toward all members of the class. In order to maximize the learning experience, students are requested to observe the following etiquette guidelines:
Lab Policies:
Please do not eat in the lab. All drinks must be in a spill-proof container. This means no candy, gum, fruits of any kind, chips, pop cans, cups with open drink sip hole, etc.
Electronic devices not directly pertaining to your participation in this class must be turned off and put away before class starts. This means you may not place or receive calls, messages, play games, check e-mails, surf the web, pop into Facebook, Twitter, and any other similar applications. Please make sure phone will not ring or vibrate during class.
Headphones must be used at all times. Unless requested by teacher, all computers are to be muted. Please use hush tone when speaking during work time in order keep noise level down.
Computers are to be used for course related purposes only. Please refrain from browsing non-related websites, play games, or complete other subjects’ homework.
It is a privilege to work with such high-end equipment. Please do not touch the screen with anything and be careful with equipment. Vandalizing school equipment can result in removal from the course or even expelled. Student can be responsible of any damages to the equipment due to neglect or vandalizing actions.
Now that we get the serious notes out of the way… Let’s have a fun year!

- Students are expected to arrive on time and to remain in class until the class is over, or excused. All students are expected to be in full attendance until the final day of classes.
- Announcements, handouts, and assignments are issued at the beginning of class. It is your responsibility to inform yourself of any announcements or requirements that you miss due to late arrivals. Please do not interrupt class to ask about these. Remain after class or ask via email if you have questions.
- Students must take every step necessary to minimize distractions during class.
- A written excuse must be presented for any absence by all students and must show: date of absence, reason of absence, and parent’s/guardian’s signature.
- A written note is required for early dismissal. If you have a prior engagement that requires you leave before the end of class, please inform the teacher before class and take pains not to disturb other students when you leave. In the case of an emergency, please report first to the main office, so that parents/guardians may be notified.
- Socializing during lectures or when other students are presenting material for the benefit of the class is counterproductive and inconsiderate.
- CHEATING is a serious offence and will result in a score of zero, notes to your counsellor, administrator, and home.
