We went over the worksheets from last class. And then, we looked at the sine and cosine ratios. We introduced the acronym SOH CAH TOA. Puzzle 70: Milk Crate
We completed looking at the tangent ratio today. Students were given class time to work on two worksheets. Announcements: Quiz 3 on Trigonometry on Dec 17 Tuesday. We looked at some videos today as an intro to trig. Then, we looked at how to label a triangle correctly, what is reference angle, how to identify sides (opposite, adjacent, and hypotenuse) as well as started looking at the tangent ratio. Puzzle 62: Novemberish
We started the Trig Unit today by looking at some prerequisite skills. There were 2 worksheets that we went over. Puzzle 51: Money Coin Flipping
We did some quick review today. Then, we looked a a video (or two) and played Kahoot!.
No puzzle or numeracy task today due to Collaboration Day (Shorted classes) We continued on with the finance literacy package and finished it. Today, after we went over answers for last class material, we looked at the Deduction Tables and Pay Statement section. There is a review package (which I also cannot distribute online) and student were given class time to work on it. Please come by if you didn't receive the review package.
Reminder Test next Monday on Nov 25th on Financial Literacy. Numeracy Task 4: Terry Fox Fundraiser We continued on with the finance literacy package. Today, after we went over answers for last class material, we looked at the Net Pay and Deductions section. Student were given class time to work.
Puzzle 23: Sequencing Cards We continued on with the finance literacy package. Today, after we went over answers for last class material, we looked at the Additional Earnings section and also how to calculate time span. Student were given class time to work.
Puzzle 100: Suguru We continued on with the finance literacy package. Today, after we went over answers for last class material, we looked at the Other Ways to Earn an Income. Student were given class time to work.
Class shortened due to Parent Teacher Conferences. No puzzle or numeracy task today. We started the Finance Literacy unit today. Today, we covered ways to make money, gross pay, and overtime.
There is a package available for the unit which I cannot distribute online. Please come to class to collect your package if you have not already done so. Test next class on Polynomials (Chapter 5). Practice: See previous classes Puzzle 74: Intersecting Sets We went over Special Factors again today. We also looked at factoring quadratic expressions when a is not one.
Practice: Chapter 5.4 Page 99 # 4, 5, 6(a)  (d), 7, 12 Puzzle 67: Square Cake Problem We went over Special Factors today (Difference of Squares and Perfect Square Trinomials). We will spend a more time on this next class. Students were given inclass work time to practice. Please make sure to learn how to show grouping steps. NOTE: For Worksheet 21, cross out question number: 3, 4, 14, 16, 22 No puzzle or numeracy task today.
We looked at factoring today for trinomials with a =1 in the form ax^2 + bx + c. (hence, x^2 + bx + c).
Practice: Chapter 5.3 Page 95 # 4, 5, 8, 9, 13(a), 15(a) Puzzle 53: CrossNumber Puzzle We finished looking at removing common factors today. We looked at factoring by grouping.
Quiz 2 on Definitions and Multiplying Polynomials today. Practice: Chapter 5.2 Page 91 # 8, 9, 11, 18, 23 No puzzle or numeracy task due to quiz. We did a quick review of multiplying and then transition to removing common factors. We looked at how to identify the GCF (number as well as variables) and then factoring that out from a polynomial.
Reminder: Quiz 2 on Definitions and Multiplying Polynomials next class Practice: Chapter 5.2 Page 91 # 1  4, 6, 7 Puzzle 48: Tax Collector We looked at multiplying polynomials (binomials by binomials) using the FOIL method today.
We went over the rubric that would be used to mark the Term Project. Rubric can be accessed on the Puzzles or Numeracy Tasks page. Practice: Chapter 5.1 Page 87 # 2  6, 10 No puzzle or numeracy task today We went through a lot of definitions today: term, polynomial, monomial, binomial, trinomial, degree, leading term, like terms, as well as evaluating polynomials and the distributive property. We did more review today. Today we focused on cube and square roots plus requests from students.
